From Ashes to Antarctica: Archived Architecture on Film
Film Archive/ Te Anakura Whitiahua , 84 Taranaki Street
6.30pm Tuesday 5th October 2004
This evening showcases a range of films which document architecture from the 1930s to the 1970s. The selection includes footage of the Social Security Building fire in 1939, an amateur documentary of prisons in New Zealand, and rare archival film of Plischke's Cashmere Rd, Methodist Church Hall (1954), which was recently demolished in 2001. A 1957 film shows the development and process behind Frank Ponder's designs for Scott Base, and is followed with an experimental film examining Leon Narbey's 1970s interior light installation at the opening of the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery: "A Film of Real Time."
